My Vision.

My vision is my definition of the musician I am trying to become.

It's written down. There's a copy in my notebook. I read it frequently, and update it as needed. (There's a recent version in the comments.) I will refer to it as long as I play music.

Everything is positive, in the first person, and the present tense, even things I haven't done yet, and even things that feel beyond my grasp at the moment. This creates a bias towards being active and being positive. I don't really know right now what is and isn't beyond my grasp, or where the line between the two will be a year from now. Things change, and practice makes you better.

It's optimistic; I find optimism to be more productive than any alternative to optimism. It documents where I am, what I have done so far, and what I can imagine myself doing.

It says, as clearly and in as much detail as possible, why I practice.

I’ve been practicing for 60 years. This is what I’ve learned.
